Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare to operate the attenuator
- Access, interpret and apply relevant traffic management / attenuator documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm safety requirements from the site safety plan, vehicle movement plan and organisational policies and procedures, and apply to the allotted task
- Identify, obtain and implement signage requirements
- Select vehicles, plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks consistent with the requirements of the job, check for serviceability and rectify or report any faults
- Identify, confirm, clarify and apply environmental protection requirements
- Conduct truck and attenuator pre-operational checks
- Operate communication devices
- Operate truck or trailer mounted attenuator
- Position traffic controls and truck or trailer mounted attenuator
- Carry out operator maintenance
- Clean up
Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and proceduresimplements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient operation of a truck or trailer mounted attenuator including:accessing and interpreting the truck or trailer mounted attenuator manufacturer’s instructionsaccessing and interpreting workplace documentation, such as job safety analysis or safe work method statementsaccessing and interpreting site traffic management plan and safety planaccessing and interpreting National Guidelines, Code of Practice for truck or trailer mounted attenuators works effectively with others to undertake and complete the operation of a truck or trailer mounted attenuator that meets all of the required outcomes including:using a range of communication techniques and equipment to convey information to othersusing effective, efficient and safe radio communication procedures to ensure safety of work colleagues and road usersparticipating in pre-work safety meetings, toolbox meetings or similarmaintaining written and verbal reporting requirementsorganising work activities to meet all task requirementscommunicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructionsdemonstrates completion of operating a truck or trailer mounted attenuator that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion, at three (3) different road sites, at least one of which will include working in a mobile/progressively moving work situation including:operation of the truck or trailer mounted attenuator, according to national guidelines, manufacturer’s instructions, site safety plan, traffic management plan, and environmental protection requirementsconducting truck and attenuator pre-operational checks, including any attachments, and reported any faultsmoving and positioning the truck or trailer mounted attenuator to meet manufacturer’s specifications, traffic and site regulations, and traffic management plan requirementspositioning other traffic controls and signs as required in the traffic management plancarrying out inspection and fault finding on the truck or trailer mounted attenuator as per manufacturer’s instructions and organisational requirementsconducts clean up of work area, and store tools, plant and equipment safely and following organisational requirements
